Compare the TCP settings on the 2 machines - this includes options 10
and 12. Others have mentioned DNS, but I didn't see host tables
mentioned - I didn't look at all the posts. 12 lets you specify your DNS
- just like you do for TCP/IP properties for network setups in Windows.
12 also says whether to search the DNS first, or to go to your hosts
table. For performance, it is often recommended to set this to *LOCAL,
which means the host table - as here -

Host name search priority . . . *LOCAL *REMOTE, *LOCAL, *SAME

Now 10 is the host table. This is where you put IP addresses and the
domain (host) names you want to be able to use. Yes, I know, you're
supposed to use DNS, not host tables. But really, one uses both. Be sure
that your ftp.whatever.com is either in the hosts table of the v5r3 box,
or that the DNS setting is the same on both boxes. This assumes the
ftp.whatever.com is NOT in option 10 of the v6r1 box.

Normally this is a DNS function, so either your DNS settings are incorrect
on the V5R3 system or DNS is now ignoring that system or you're not using
DNS.

If you're not using DNS, then start with CFGTCP. Use option 10.

I am working on two AS/400s. From one AS/400 (V6R1), I can do FTP
using
both IP address and URL. But on the other AS/400 (V5R3), I can only do
FTP
using IP Address.
