Ran an experiment, to see what would happen if I ramped up the keepalive
to one minute general, and 30 seconds specific to Telnet. Worked
beautifully, with no ill effects.
Timed a connection to the customer's box crapping out. Consistent 15 3/4
minutes, give or take my reaction time on the stopwatch.
Gave the customer my findings, and the suggestion that they ramp up the
keepalive to 10 minutes/600 seconds. They said it would "cause too much
network traffic since it will always try to ping every 10 minutes."
They evidently don't seem to understand the difference between a
keepalive probe and a ping.
<rolleyes> oy, vey.
