Well, the 7.1 identifier corresponds nicely with Power 7 chips - not to mention Windows 7.1. See, we're in sync! For what that's worth.
Honestly, I haven't paid close enough attention over the years to comment about what could traditionally be called a "version" upgrade, vs. a "release" point. 7.1 vs. 6.2. I'm just happy the OS name, IBM i remains intact.
