Mike,
The FOR_LOOP tag is totally redundant (a leftover from a previous version
of the UDF) and you can delete it without problems (I hope :-) )

Mike,
The follownig UDF works for me:
***********************************
Drop Function
qgpl/SubTypeTXT;
Create Function qgpl/SubTypeTXT (InputType Numeric(1, 0) )
Returns varchar(1024)
Language SQL
Returns null on null input
Deterministic
Begin
Declare Str VarChar(1024);
Set Str = '' ;
for_loop:
for rec as (
SELECT Subtype FROM @TEST/MikeTAB
WHERE TypeNum = InputType
)
DO
IF rec.SubType is not null THEN
SET STR = (trim(STR) || ' ' || subtype) ;
END IF;
END FOR for_loop;
RETURN STR ;
End
*****************************
Please be aware that this is a VERY basic UDF, almost not checking and
very simple. Also, the only way you can be sure of the sequence of records
in a SQL table is using the ORDER BY clause, so you need a good sequence
field (timestamp, id value, etc) in order to avoid sending your swimsuit to
Calgary...

Thanks, Alan, and also to Luis, who suggested recursive views. I've
played around some, but nothing is really working yet. I'm coming to the
conclusion that the easiest thing will be to write a UDF using good old RPG
