DSPOBJD on a *QRYDFN does not tell you anything about files used. Besides, it is possible to name different files when you RUNQRY, so the definition is only a hint as to what is really being used. You can also specify different output types in RUNQRY, so, again, the *QRYDFN is more of a template than the final word.

DMPOBJ of a *QRYDFN will give you lots of info in some format - there are some who have figured it all out.

I should have tried that. I have done that with different object types did not think to look and see if I could do it with a qrydfn. Thanks for the solution. Another question is there a way to identify what files are being used in a set of queries in a particular library?

You can do a DSPOBJD with OBJTYPE of *QRYDFN and get the output to an
OUTFILE.

Sorry I meant to say description field. And the question was vague. When
you do a wrkqry it shows the following screen.

5=Display, 6=Print definition
8=Run in batch, 9=Run
Query . . . . . . . Name, F4 for list
Library . . . . . hs#libr Name, *LIBL, F4 for list

when you do a f4 list on the query field for the library selected you get
the following screen. My question is how can i output this data to an out
file to be able to do a search on the descrition field below.

Work with Queries

Library . . . . . . . . HS#LIBR Name, *LIBL, F4 for list
Subset . . . . . . . . Name, generic*

Please attempt to be more explicit on _what about WRKQRY_ is
desired to be made available in the output file. Perhaps just issue
the WRKQRY command at a command line, then describe:

- each action performed

- describe what, from each of those actions performed, is the
"result" of interest [i.e. what is desired] to have appear in an
output file

If the alluded "description file" is instead specific to any one
particular query definition object [that had been created
previously; i.e. an existing *QRYDFN], then perhaps something like
RTVQMQRY, RTVQMFORM, or 6=Print Query [option within WRKQRY] issued
for that specific *QRYDFN object is what is of interest?

Regards, Chuck

so I can do a search on the description file. Or what is the file
name on the system that contains this information?
