Hi,
even though I'm not using Cobol, I know it is possible to embed SQL in a
Cobol program.
In this way you may use the SQL scalar function REPLACE to remove blanks
from a String:
EXEC SQL SET :NEWSTRING = REPLACE(TRIM(:STRING), ' ', '')
END-EXEC

Betreff: embedded blanks in COBOL string
I have to 'scrunch' out blanks for a string in a COBOL program, and
used some INSPECT / TALLYING followed by substring logic, but I
kept thinking there must be and easier way to remove embedded
spaces from a string. Using COBOL.
