SQL-86 was published by ANSI in 1986 and ISO in 1987.

They had to create their own standards. Even IBM wasn't doing this stuff
when SEQUEL hit the market 20 some years ago.

Looks like you have focused on the GUI interface. I combine the green
screen and the GUI and can produce a report with SEQUEL a whole lot
faster than I can with a program.
I have never used Viewpoint. The things I identified, I enter through
SEQUEL's green entry screen.
Wanna have a race? :-))
OK, you caught me exaggerating. I just hate programming to two
standards.
The one (and only) saving grace for SEQUEL is that it can produce a
report or various IFS formats, which does leave STRSQL and the IBM
offerings in the dust. But why, oh why, do they insist on creating
their own standards when we have ANSI to make sure that doesn't
happen?!?!
If there's no report involved, I'll drop to STRSQL every time, and I
*will* (read "do") write programs for reports rather than propagating
SEQUEL's deviances to Production. Even though (he says with chagrin) it
does take longer.
