Thanks,
I omitted setting the variables and the IF statement issue was fixed by
fixing ENF IF to END IF.

Subject: Re: UDF Syntax

Since the word\token _RESULT_ is a "reserved word" in the SQL, I
would expect that there could be problems using that name for a
variable or other SQL name, without delimiting the token with the
quote character; i.e. "RESULT". Also there is a clause SET RESULT
SETS statement, which may be even more possible as problematic for
the "SET RESULT ..." I did not review beyond seeing the undelimited
variable usages.

Regards, Chuck

What is wrong with the syntax of my UDF? The compiler throws
on the SET RESULT and SET RECCOUNT lines as well as on the
IF statement. Do I need to set up a cursor?

BEGIN
DECLARE RESULT DECIMAL ( 13 , 2 ) ;
DECLARE RECCOUNT INTEGER ;

SET RESULT = 0;
SET RECCOUNT = 0;
