Hi Jack
My suggestion won't help with the past but will help with the future.
I strongly recommend a product called DASD-Plus Alert from S4i Systems
(www.s4isystems.com). It used to be called disk/HUNTER. It wakes up at
an interval and checks free space. If free space has gone down, it runs
a process to report on various things that have changed. More info at
their site - and I'm not an employee S4i - I did write most of the first
version of it, though, several years ago.
It can save your life. Has done so for customers I once knew about. The
interval can be as little as 15 seconds, and that does NOT affect
performance at all - until it needs to find the culprits.

I have a box where this has gone up dramatically over the last coup of hours
based on the snapshot early on and now. Any hints as to how to track down
the culprit on these.
