What I mean is that by default, the current directory isn't searched.

As Roger mentions, I think you can add the . to your path, but it does
have to be explicitly added.

My apology; I read that entirely differently. And on that, it is not a good
idea to have current directory ( . ) in one's path for security reasons
since rouge scripts may be run accidentally that way. As you say, one
cannot stop this kind of thing in Winblows, and that's a shame.

It is also not very good practice to specify #!/path/shell in your scripts
as a general rule. I did this regularly on a SunOS system because it used
the bourne shell as a default while I prefer korn. Rather than change those
on System i to be /bin/qsh, I would delete them altogether. They are little
more than documentary there, and could be a source for trouble, especially
when porting.
