I did option 8 and got the following, which leads me to believe that I am in
an awkward state of kind-of-but-not-really having PTF's installed. I am
officially taking back things I never stole - this sucks. I am going to
call IBM and cash in on my support I think.

Ooops. Maybe you did try GO PTG. In that case, I'd suggest GO PTF.

Have you done a GO PTG Option 8 to install the PTF's?

When you power down/restart are you specifying IPLSRC(B)? You need to
do that.

As to changing defaults - the usual instructions say that if you have
additional PTFs to load, then turn off automatic IPL- something like
that. This would be the case if you had the cume and some group ptfs. So

there is nothing sacred about those defaults.

I have to say, there is ample documentation on the process - yes, you
won't do well by taking dart throws at various links and use google - at

least IMO.

So more good luck from us who are northeast of you!!

That's actually where I went to try and start it to begin with. I
right
click and select Start, then it hangs for about 1 minute (assuming it
is
trying to start) and then it returns control to me and the status is
still
set to stopped.

I am doing my best to bite my tongue, but I shouldn't need to apply
fixes to
my fix process so I can apply other fixes. IBM, your approach to
applying
updates to an IBM i is to complicated!!!!!!!! Doing my best not to
compare
it to the simplicity of applying updates to my Linux machines.

For V5R4 and before you don't have to be in restricted, but if you

If I am going to do a automatic IPL I do it off hours and with the
system
in
restricted state.

If management central did not start, then you might check (in
Navigator)
My

Management
Central and see if that server is started.
