Query/400 reporting honors the DATFMT() of the column for presentation, whereas the STRSQL reporting honors the DATFMT() specified either on the STRSQL command or that modified setting using F13=Services within a STRSQL session. RUNQRY & WRKQRY have no equivalent of the DATFMT() specification in STRSQL that can be used to override the preferred presentation for all date data type values in a report.
