He wants to go from the 16-byte value to a 32-byte representation - that
is what CVTHC is for - that's where the naming gets screwy for me - but
it means hex digits (H) to character representation (C).
For instance I have a 16 byte character field with binary data and I
want to turn it into a 32 byte character field that is the hex
representation of the field.
Documentation on CVTHC says "The cvthc function takes each hexadecimal
digit (4- bit value) of source and converts
it to a character digit (8-bit value) and places into receiver."
This results in 2 characters in the output for each byte of the input.
That's what he asked for.
