There isn't much difference between the two version of LIC, except that the
M5 will support some of the newer Power5 hardware. Also, I think that M5
supports Raid6, which wasn't supported on M0. During the last 2 years every
upgrade we did to i5/OS V5R4, we used the M5 version of LIC. Just so that
our customers would have the option to move to new hardware (Power 6) more
easily, or if there was a Disaster situation, and they had to recover, there
were more processors available to them.

IF we have no imminent plan to upgrade hardware, is there a persuasive
argument for upgrading from V5R4M0 to V5R4M5? From what I understand,
we won't be on 6.1 anytime soon.
As a lowly developer, I don't have much influence over the
SysAdmin/Operations function, but I can make the suggestion if I can
express why it would be advantageous.

The other system was current as of August?

Then I want to go to a general point. Folks, if you are running 540
then
get yourself to 545 and reapply cumes, groups, etc. If this person
would
have taken the time in August to slip install 545 LIC he would be much
better off.
