How do I get it to flush connection without signing off?

As described in this thread, I can do a
ADDTCPHTE for GDISYS to point to GDISYS1
STRSQL
CONNECT TO GDISYS
Select and see data from gdisys1
RELEASE and DISCONNECT
F3
Change host table so that GDISYS now points to GDISYS2.
ping and telnet to GDISYS now goes to GDISYS2. However when I do
STRSQL
CONNECT TO GDISYS
Select still shows data from GDISYS1 and not GDISYS2

Unlike PING and TELNET I have to signoff before STRSQL recognizes new
connection. I am afraid this may percolate down to client type
applications also.
