Appearantly plink somehow knows who I'm tryting to connect to:

I do this and it work: plink system dspneta

I get the mcbell4:not found error if I do: plink mcbell4 system dspneta.


It's possible you've saved your system name/IP in the default settings in PuTTY. (Assuming here that plink uses those default settings; I've never used plink.) I do know it says you can use a saved session instead of a hostname, so it stands to reason that it also uses other default settings.
