I am sure that you have been down the "upgrade" all firmware path, but I found that *everything* on the BCS and blade seems to have a firmware component that has to be updated. I can't remember the list, although I should put it together, of which components need what firmware. The "Updates" option of the IVM Service Management section has been helpful but IBM has a ways to go before a "one click update" will be available.

I'd make sure that each HW component that has firmware has been updated to the latest applicable level. Right now, if I understand it, the JS12 is actually backlevel other Power6 firmware levels because of an issue (I can't remember which). The JS12 shows EA340_039 Revision 0842 dated 11/12/08. My guess is, absent a pure HW issue, there will be some firmware updates in your future. Based on your brief description, it almost sounds like the issue might be with the BCS. In my case I am running AMM firmware BPET48C revision 48 dated 02/19/2009.

Running a blade is quite an adventure! Post back what the solution is so I can be ready, should it come back to haunt me.

Pete

thanks Pete. I will call IBM support tomorrow. My blade also has an
annoying habit of coming up in some sort of "discovered" status
frequently when I power on the system. When that happens I have to
start the blade from the white power switch on the front. Hardware
support had me upgrade the firmware the last time I called about it.
Which did not help.

Steve,

I haven't run into this unless I specifically changed the "keylock"
parameter to manual in the IVM. I don't know why that would change from
boot to boot without some kind of intervention though.

The setting in the IVM is on the "General" tab in the Partition Properties.

sometimes when I power on my BC-S VIOS boots automatically. Other

thanks,
