It is important to keep the raw numbers in context. I would guess that
it's true that the number of installed units is dropping, but more
likely due to consolidation than customers fleeing the platform.

A previous employer had five production and two test systems when I
started working there. Before I left they had consolidated down to one
test and one production system and now they have both test and prod on
an LPARed 520. The iSeries there also absorbed the workloads from two
Windows based Domino servers.

IIRC these included a 640, a 720, a 620, a 400, a 500 and 2 170's. I'm
guessing that's close to $2M worth of hardware consolidated down to a
single $50K box.
