Along with my Power 6 570-MMA I have two Power 6 M25's. All lpars running
i are running 6.1.
One M25 has a "host" partition that supports one guest partition. And a
couple of stand alone partitions.
The other M25 has a "host" partition that supports two guest partitions.
The guest partitions appear in WRKNWSD - like IXS cards and stuff.
So, if you were to migrate the host partition to the new hardware,
wouldn't that by default take the guest partitions also? No "restore" of
the guests needed.
And unlike the pre HMC days there's no additional hardware required for
guest partitions. No separate disk controllers, console hookups, etc. Do
a WRKDSKSTS on a guested partition and see weird stuff like:
Size %
Unit Type (M) Used
1 6B22 233020 27.3
2 6B22 93212 31.5

Because both of those drives appear on the hosting partition as:
WRKNWSSTG
Link
Name Server Seq Type Access

GDISTG01 GDI 1 *DYN *UPDATE
GDISTG02 GDI 2 *DYN *UPDATE
F11
%
Name Used Size

GDISTG01 0 250003
GDISTG02 0 100006

After installing the host partition I can see a little work needed to
configure the guested partitions to the fsp on the new machine (via the
hmc or what not), but a restore of the guested partitions shouldn't be
needed, eh?
