Oh yeah!
Our month end process which I run manually from home at midnight, only takes
20 minutes now on our POWER 6. Back in the day, on a 620 it took about 3
hours.
I'm waiting for the day it's instantaneous :)

Subject: Power 6
I was doing an upgrade last night from a small 9406-520 to a new power 6 one
core using an LTO-4 tape drive, and the restore was actually about 1/2 the
time it took to do the backup on the 520 with an LTO-3.
I think IBM might want to change their marketing program to "POWER 6 - It's
faster than Cat Sh1t". Well, perhaps this is why I don't do the marketing
and just the technical stuff. :)
But I have done over two dozen Power 6 upgrades so far, and they are just
amazing. They IPL like lightening. The only thing I do not like about
them, is the power connection on the back. Very easy to knock the power
cords out, and I have done this on every install so far at least once (One
machine I knocked it out 3 times). Luckily, I have ordered every machine
with dual power, and I would HIGHLY recommend that everyone who orders these
boxes insure they have dual power. Someone must have been drunk at IBM when
they designed the power connectivity. They don't have one of those large
rings to insure the power stays connected, and the plugs don't snuggly fit
in.
One of the machines I recently upgraded was running Domino, and it was
always slow to come up on the 9406-520. With their new Power 6 520, it was
up almost instantly. In addition, everything was just flying through that
customers machine. It made them extremely happy.
