I'm still a bit confused about how a numeric bar-coded field with
decimals looks/works? When the barcode is created, does the human
readable portion show like this: 123.321? Is there actually a decimal
point embedded into the barcode itself?

When the barcode is scanned - into a numeric field with 3 decimal
positions in a program, does it automatically align properly?

Put the numeric into an alpha numeric field.
If you have to have the decimal, then use an %editc or %editw.
Barcode data is alphanumeric.
