I asked my IBM rep if I could do multiple LPARs on this machine and
here is his response:

----begin IBM----
To partition this machine with V6R1 would require either:

(A) VIOS and AIX formatted disk drives (all partitions would be
virtual) with IVM to manage it, no HMC

(B) An HMC as the console with IBM i as a controlling partition and
IBM i virtual clients. The HMC's sole purpose is to set up and manage
the partitions. A deskside HMC without a monitor is about $3,000 list
price where a rack mounted version with flat panel monitor and
keyboard would be about $7,000.
----end IBM----

Has anybody had good experience with IVM? I quickly skimmed a couple
articles on it and the authors didn't necessarily have negative things
to say. It sounds nifty (i.e. point your browser at the machines IP
address and it brings up a config display of sorts for the VIOS). I
am not going to pay $3000 more for an HMC when I am only going to be
managing probably two LPARs.
