David has it right.
There are MANY ways to pull this off. A public RSS feed is only one option
(though the most used). You could provide a password protected feed, a
programatically generated feed based on user, or just don't publicly list a
feed and share with only those you want to listen.
The idea of a podcast is that of the DVR. Set it and forget it. Anything
else is NOT a podcast.
For those that question this and think a download link on a website is a
podcast, contact me off-list. I have been running a podcast since 2005. I
know a thing or two about this. Heck, I have revenue models in my head I
would be glad to pass along.
... oh and don't argue with me on this. Sorry, this topic really ticks me
off in this community. If I had more time, I would show you all how to do it
right!
