This is correct, WINS is legacy protocol. But there are still several
(legacy) applications which depend on it - for example, network
browsing or Exchange 2003. Which you may, or may not need/want.



As I recently found out, if you plan on using /QNTC (to connect with PC
hosts) and run commands such as CPYFRMSTMF & CPYFRMIMPF you may still want
to run a WINS server. The iSeries queries it for a Master Browser to
furnish a host list.
