But it does show you the number of jobs in the system. I think that is
what he was trying to point you to. It would show you if you had an
abnormally high number of jobs. Those with just a spool file will show
up in that number. Cleaning up the outqs and reclaiming spool storage
may be all you need.

Yea, we've had that issue as well.

I didn't think it did.

DSPSYSSTS doesn't show the maximum numbers of jobs.

Be careful if you adjust the maximum spooled files and use the
RCLSPL[STG]-- we had some severe slowdowns when we tried to prune
things too much-- jobs were delayed when they tried to create new
spooled file members. Spooling uses a set of files to store spooled
files. Each new document is tucked into a member in a file. In
order to add a new member, spooling needs an exclusive lock on the
file (just as user applications do with databse files). Although
spooling does have several files to choose from, if things get busy
delays (and errors) can result. We 'cured' the problem by setting
the 'automatic pruning' to keep at least 1 month's worth of spooled
file members around. This gets us through 'any' month ending (our
busiest period).

As far as I know, having extra spooled file members lying around
doesn't count as far as 'jobs in the system' is concerned.

Out of curiosity-- if you DSPSYSSTS, has the maximum jobs in system
changed since you started your clean up process? If the only thing
left of a job is the JOBLOG, deleting it should lower the number.
