My old boss and I were once doing an upgrade on a S/38 with a 3430 drive
late one night. The tape started climbing up on the take-up reel.
Couldn't open the lid because the interlock would stop the drive.
Watched it for awhile and then decided... let's just go get dinner and
see if it's still working when we get back. Fortunately, it was. But
that tape made a pretty serious cone shape on the reel.

Remember that stupid real to real tape drive that had the hoses/tubes
that would rack causing vacuum lose ? THAT was fun during an upgrade...

I remember doing a CPF upgrade using those ....
Operations was less fun when they got rid of the dials and the load
button.
