getting "device not ready" when I try to display a tape in my newly
attached TS2240 tape drive.
DSPTAP DEV(TAPVRT01) DATA(*LABELS)

Is there something I have to do on the VIOS side to make the tape
device available to my i5/OS partition?

The drive shows up as "varied on" from WRKCFGSTS *DEV.

Tried both LTO2 and LTO3 tapes in the TS2240 drive.

The drive does work. I was able to save VIOS to it.

In IVM, the i5/OS partition sees the tape in the "physical tape
device" section. The name is "rmt0".

On the VIOS side, I did upgrade to VIOS 2.1 Fix pack 21. IOSLEVEL
reported I am at FP21.

To virtualize the tape in VIOS I ran "mkvdev -vdev rmt0 -vadapter vhost0".

The final step in my instructions was to run "cfgmgr on client
partition to make the device available". Not sure how to do that. But
since the device shows up in IVM and WRKDEVSTS, I guess it is not
needed.

thanks,
