There's an obscure option called Remote Console Takeover that can be
configured on your i. Near as I can tell you could switch between Op's
Console, to Lan Console, to HMC during a RCLSTG or full system save and
not have a burp on your system console. Would even work in the situations
where a shared session (initiated remotely) disconnects during said
dedicated system operation. Haven't fully tested it yet (not really
anticipating trying to abort my console intentionally during a RCLSTG). I
have configured it though. I can understand it but I think it would blow
my coworkers mind because of three additional screens you get when
starting the system console.
1 - Enter in DST user id and password. Remember that this can be mixed
case, etc.
2 - Big crowded screen with information diarrhea. Just remember to hit
F10 at the bottom.
3 - Enter 1 if you are really freaking sure screen.

IBMer on the phone says they are now shipped this way as a default.

I am leaning towards trying the KVM and ensuring that I really have a
local shared session on my hmc prior to using the shared session remotely
before trying anything like a RCLSTG remotely. Just afraid to cause any
confusion for people stepping out of their comfort zone to assist with
system maintenance.

I could tell you stupid user stories about some of the stuff that happens
during system maintenance but I do appreciate their effort.
