To expand a bit on my last post - DSPF will convert the data to a readable form, usually. DSPPFM will not - if you throw ASCII bytes into a physical file, you see garbage - well, you actually see what the EBCDIC character is for that particular byte value.

Make sense?

Sorry, let me give you more details: it is a .TXT file and the data is like "fixed space" delimited, like:

BCOMNO BORTYP BORDNO BLINSQ ------- ------ ------ -------
7848 9 082854 1 7848 9 082854 2 7848 9 082854 3 7848 9 082854 7 7848 9 082854 11 7848 9 082854 12
I see the data like that when I open it in Wordpad and when I do EDTF and DSPF commands. That is why I know that there is a problem when I have garbage after the command executes. I use DSPPFM and the garbage is more detailed and colorful when I use DBU or WRKQRY to see the data..

By the way, the file TEMPFILE in QTEMP has a record length of 32766 and its coded character set identifier (CCSID) is 65535. For the stream file, I believe is 00437. The job's CCSID is 00037.
