Secure connection error, return code -23.

Did you read the error message? If i remember correctly, -23 means
invalid certificate.

Either you're connecting to the wrong hostname, their certificate is
issued to another hostname, or they're using a self-signed
certificate, or they've signed their certificate from a CA that's not
on the IBM i's default CA list.

Use the openssl commandline tool to get their certificate (openssl
-connect 1.2.3.4:1234). If possible, obtain the CA certificate needed
and add it to your IBM i's certificate store.

SSH is still the easier way to go.
