Does internet access in the UK from 3 and 4 star hotels generally REALLY
SUCK or have I just happened to luck up on 10 or so hotels this
month that just suck? It seems that in the UK "high speed internet"
is about that of poor quality dialup lines! I'm talking Coppthorns,
Milliniums, Drurys.etc. Speakeasy is calibrating these lines at 365k-
down and 75k or so UP. this is just insanity!

I've had more problems with the price (typically 3x a US hotel price) than the
quality but the quality often reflects the fact that many hotels are old
buildings and the internet is a retrofit.

When I'm in the UK it is the ONE TIME I go to Mikey D's. In the UK their
coffee is pretty good (most UK coffee being pretty bad) and the internet is
free! So I take a trip for coffee and use the internet there. I also have a
Boingo account which means that while not free internet connections at a wide
range of locations overseas if much cheaper than it would be.

Even better - many pubs in the UK have wi-fi often BT-Openzone which is OK and
one account will work at multiple locations. That way I can indulge two of my
vices at the same time!
But curious minds want to know - what's a cheapskate like you doing staying in
3 and 4 star UK hotels Don?
