Well, maybe, but in the mean time... AWK to the rescue...
ls -al | awk '{printf "%11.11d %s\n", $5, $0;}' | sort
for ascending, and:
ls -al | awk '{printf "%11.11d %s\n", $5, $0;}' | sort -r
descending. Works in PASE and QSH.
