Since the PC doesn't contain an RDBS and no indexing, VARPG didn't support local ISAM access, which greatly slowed its adoption, IMHO. It also didn't support printer files, IIRC.

Just one small correction to this - VARPG had Java output capabilities
_added_ to it for a number of reasons inclding th ability to run VARPG
apps as applets. The product itself generated Windows exe files -
that was its design point and how most people used it.
