First, it's not $2000 per developer. RDi-SOA is $1200 more than RDi. If you're using ADTS (SEU and PDM) instead of RDi, you're not ready to
build a web interface. Second, a new, free version of EGL is slated to
be available REAL SOON NOW. It won't have enterprise integration, but
it will allow you to create EGL Rich UI applications that consume web
services.

Joe,

You convinced me about EGL last month, but I was discouraged to find
that I couldn't download something I could use to demonstrate what it
can do. Other than watching all the IBM announcements, is there some
place I can track the status of the free version of EGL? Will it work
with Eclipse by chance? That's great news if it isn't too severely
neutered. Something along the lines of the free .net development studio
components maybe?
Pete, why couldn't you download the 60 day trial version?

As to the capabilities of the free version, I think it's just the Rich UI piece, which means not even the WebSphere Test Environment will be included - you basically won't be able to connect to back end business logic without some serious work on your part.

In any event, that offering is still in the planning stage, meaning it might have more functionality, or alternately might never see the light of day. I'd use the 60 day trial to show what the tool can do.

Joe
