Usually I do "IBM System i (aka AS/400, iSeries)". That covers most of the
bases.

"Most" of the bases, yes. Unfortunately, the one it *doesn't* cover is the current name of the system. (Sometimes I wonder if folks in the community even know that the name isn't System i anymore?) Personally, I think including the current name of the system is important.

So, following your pattern, but adding the current name, you have to say:

"Power Systems or older hardware (AS/400, iSeries, System i) running
IBM i (or OS/400, i5/OS)"

And that's enough to drive anyone nuts.
