That sucks. FWIW, in the past, I've made attendance a part of my employment
agreement. Being a volunteer and getting my registration for free helped,
but only to a point.

The basic benefit was that the things I learned made me more valuable to my
employer's customers, and as a side item, allowed them to charge a higher
rate for my time.

You must keep in mind that I work for an insourcing company (I think that's
the term, what I mean is that my company places IT people at customers'
sites).

There are over 250 IT people working for the company in Belgium, and about 5
of them work on iSeries.

Frankly, I'm surprised that they even bother to remain member of COMMON
Belgium as it is...

And I don't think the budget approval committee (at home) would let me pay
it out of our own pocket ;-)
