David, There may be a patch so that Excel Transfer data to iSeries will
treat UNICODE fields as character.
A fix (APAR SE19885) for this was added to the V5R3 Service
Pack SI18651. There is now a way to get the defaults as CHAR instead of
as
GRAPHIC (Unicode). See presentation at:
