No time to work on it :(

Well, I have time. But I'd like to use a more flexible-extensible design for "accounts", and use generic terminology that applies more readily to non-profit & government entities as well as commercial entities of any size.

I think I've come up with something that will work. When recording financial activity, record against an Entity ID and Account ID.

Accounts would identify specific asset, liability, revenue, or expense definitions typically found on financial statement (Cash, Accounts Receivable, Sales, etc.)

Entity IDs would consist of a 1 byte Segment ID (0-9), and say a 10 byte ID which you could define as any type of Entity you may want to record financial activity for - whether you're managing trust funds, or a hot-dog stands. And provide a way to concatenate up to 10 segments together in hierarchical fashion for bottom-to-top statement consolidations.

I think that would provide the flexibility I'm looking for. And would work for a hot-dog stand as well as a conglomerate like IBM; a church, a school, or government entity too.

A city government might label an entity as a "fund", while a commercial enterprise might label an entity a "branch", or "division", or really any name of their own making.

Nathan.
