IBM has an exemplary record in the OS community. Another example IBM's Java Toolbox, arguably one of the most powerful open source integration packages available.Open-source idealists and communities would be hardest hit. I can see IBM giving lip service to them but putting most of their efforts into proprietary versions of Java, Java Application Servers, and MySQL.
Why do you say this Nathan? IBM donated Eclipse to the OS community and followed up the initial piece with handing over the base RSE among other things. Compared with Sun who fought against OS for Java for the longest time IBM seem like paragons of virtue to me.
