Rob,

What troubles are you having varying on the devices?

the media library TAPMLB02 varies on, but the TAP02 failed:

--00002006: The device type specified in the device description TAP02 does
not match the type associated with resource TAPMLB02.

Ok,

Thanks for all the help so far, and they still want me to figure this
out.  This is what I have right now:

WRKHDWRSC *STG shows:

CMB01            2844-001   Operational           Combined function IOP
 DC01           2757-001   Operational           Storage Controller
 DC03           5704-001   Operational           Tape Controller
 TAPMLB02       3582-001   Operational           Tape Library

???)  why does TAPMLB02 show 3582-001 when the tape unit is a 3580-002?

putting a 9 on TAPMLB02 shows:

 TAPMLB02         3582-001   Operational           Tape Library
  TAP02          3580-002   Operational           Tape Unit

putting a 5 on TAPMLB02 from here shows TAPMLB02  as the config
description, and a 5 on that shows device description:

Device description . . . . . . . . :   TAPMLB02
Option . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :   *BASIC
Category of device . . . . . . . . :   *MLB

Device class . . . . . . . . . . . :   *TAP
Resource name  . . . . . . . . . . :   TAPMLB02
Device type  . . . . . . . . . . . :   3582
Device model . . . . . . . . . . . :   001

putting a 9 and a 5 on TAP02 above shows this device description:

Device description . . . . . . . . :   TAP02
Option . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :   *BASIC
Category of device . . . . . . . . :   *TAP

Device type  . . . . . . . . . . . :   3580
Device model . . . . . . . . . . . :   002
Resource name  . . . . . . . . . . :   TAPMLB02

???) Does this look right?  I'm having trouble getting the devices to vary
on.
