The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

It is not the cost so much as the double hit you have from both paying maintenance and the license transfer fee. The cost for the last two years of maintenance and the transfer fee is higher than our original purchase price. We have also stopped or moved most development to Windows using the iSeries as a database server so the need is not as great and the users like the flexibility. Most reports are now done in MS Reporting Services so they can be scheduled, pdfed, Excel'd or printed without code and without cost.
I believe their tools are stuck at v5r1 anyway so keeping them on the old box makes no difference.

That's okay. After some thought I feel a little guilty about asking a question comparing the value of a programmer to the value of a code generator. One has body, mind, and soul, while the other is a software robot.
On the other hand, I guess it's not that uncommon to think of programmers as robots ;-)
