You have a couple nice options - you can create tables with data from another table, or combination of tables.

create table newlib/newtable as (select * from oldlib/oldtable) with data

You could even put that into a QM query with substitution variables for the table and library names, even other parameters from CPYF if you wanted, then put a command and CL program in front of that QM query.

The above statement works in V5R3, at least, I believe.

Thank you. One of the things I miss is the ability to quickly make test data. Something like the CPYF would be good.

Subject: Re: Oracle in system i termonology

Index = keyed logical
View = unkeyed logical with dropped fields, substringed fields, ect..
plus lots more you can do in an DDS logical.

One thing to understand, with RPG and record level access, you
explicitly open and use a keyed logical.

Whereas with SQL, on either the i or Oracle, you use the physical
table (PF) or view and behind the scenes the query engine may or may
not use the index.

HI I was wondering if there is someone in the group who knows both system i and Oracle and could then explain the basiscs to me in system i terms of the Oracle setup. I am not sure for example what is meant by indices or is this like a Logical file.

TIA,Adam
