Subject: Re: Spyview tool for archiving spool files

Paul, like you mentioned, Magellan became Gauss, which became Open Text.

We are on V5R4 right now and have run the ANZOBJCVN command on all of
our applications.

Currently, the DOCVIEW (SPYVIEW) software is showing about 1000 programs
that do not pass the test for V6R1.

We are on release 8.5.1 on Doc Manager.

In speaking with Gauss a few months ago, we may need to perform at least
2 upgrades to 8.7.1 and then to another release which may be called
8.7.3.

I have not heard anything from Gauss stating their compatibility with
6.1 as of yet.

We stopped writing to optical (3995) about two years ago & currently
write to disk.

Gauss stores the spoolfiles in physical files.

At some point in time IBM will no longer support the 3995 optical
library.

I am guessing within the next 3 years or so.

This should go in line with the timeframe that all report currently on
optical aren't needed anymore at my company.

Thanks.

I had a question from a customer about a product called Spyview, which
according to the archives came from Magellan Software, which became
Gauss,
which became Opentext.

Anybody using it? Familiar with it? Are they still in business? These
folks
are getting a V6R1 machine soon. Any bets on Spyview's compatibility?

Would it be worth keeping just to archive spool files? Does it require
the
use of the media jukebox?

RJS has a cool way to store spool files in the IFS.
