Interesting approach. I will say FTP is installed, but not always started
though.

While sometimes API's seem complex, they are really the best way to handle
these kinds of things.

Java is always an options too. It's very easy to get a list of files with
even just the java.io.File class. You could even use the CommandCall class
from JTOpen.
