Dave,
This is normal and correct if the following was done.
When you do the "Save" it backs up everything that has changed since
the last Installation from the Recovery Media (DVD). Think of this as
"like" a SAVCHGOBJ on i5/OS of the operating system. Now I am assuming that
you used Recovery Media to upgrade from 7.3.2 to 7.3.4, and then loaded the
latest HMC ptf MH001152. Therefore the only code that was backed up was the
stuff after the DVD Recovery Media installation, which would have been
MH001152.
So in order to recover, you would use your DVD Recover Media to
install the new base HMC code and then restore your backup and you would be
back. When you put on the next "Corrective Service" the backup will take
longer, and when you put the following one on it will take even a little
longer, etc. Until you do your next installation using the Recovery Media,
and then it will get small again.

Subject: HMC backup
I just upgraded our HMC from 7.3.2 to 7.3.4 (with MH01152) - very smoothe
and farely quick process.
I did backups before to DVD-RAM and it took more than 1 hour.
I did a backup after to DVD-RAM and it took about two minutes.
These were the full HMC backups, not just the upgrade backup.
I am all for picking up the pace, just want to make sure I am not taking
speed and ignoring a problem. The boot process of the HMC seemed much
faster as well.
Anyone else experience such a thing? Should I be concerned or any way to
test and make sure the backup worked? The dialog box did say it was doing
the integrity checking.
Thanks.
