One other thing you can do, if this is just for a couple of specific uses, is to map the keyboard keys so the user can key Alt-w for white, Alt-t for turquoise, etc, and that will be saved in an edited field.

As James mentioned, the attribute hex codes take up space, so your field
will need to be longer than 40 bytes.

Also be aware that if this is an input-capable field, that:
1) As soon as someone types over the attribute value, the HI/RI will
disappear
2) The attribute values will be stored in the database field along with
the
data, unless you parse it out first...
