They'll see if there's a fix. If that fix exists in 5.4, guess what you get
to do? I've also had support line guys tell me that the version is no longer
supported. I guess it depends on what he had for breakfast.

Order it now. Load it and its associated PTF's into image catalogs, and
verify that your media is good.

Also, this is a good time to make sure that you have all the V5R3 PTF's
permanently installed.

They'll only tell you to upgrade if you have a new problem on V5R3 for which
they don't have a fix for, correct? They still take your calls and see if
there's an existing fix, right Paul?

Secondly, will V5R4 be available to order on May 1 or do I have to order it
before then?

Why would you not upgrade to at least V5R4?

If on May 1st, you have a problem that is V5R3 related, IBM will tell you to
call back after you do an OS upgrade. I hope you have stayed current on your
software maintenance agreement.

With image catalogs, your downtime will be minimized. Google SC41-5120-09 to
get the OS upgrade guide.
