The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

What I see the need for are HTML and javascript extensions to 5250.
Where an unused 5250 control code ( or better, an existing passthru
escape code ) tells the 5250 client that what follows in the
datastream is HTML that should be rendered in the 5250 window
itself.
Already supported by the 5250 data stream and surfaced via the HTML
DDS keyword.
The DDS manual says the HTML keyword is ignored if the device is not a
5250 workstation gateway device. Does that mean a 5250 telnet client
will not see the HTML?
That's a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT question. Your first question is
answered but that doesn't satisfy you so we get another. OK.
The HTML keyword, like ALL advanced DDS functions is supported by any
device that SAYS it supports it. The system interrogates the device
as to its capabilities and the device responds with a structure of
bits indicating what it can handle. Most 5250 emulators indicate they
cannot handle the advanced 5250 data stream. Some pick and choose the
capabilities they will support. Some simply lie. And some respond
with a completely incorrect set of information--probably because they
copied it from a trace and haven't a clue what the structure bits
properly represent.
PC5250 does at least build a correct capability response. It does not
indicate that it can handle HTML. It wouldn't because it's not a
browser and has no browser capabilities.
The only clients I know of that handle embedded HTML in the data
stream are aXes, Work Station Gateway (now defunct) and WebFacing.
Possibly HATS does too. Strangely enough ALL of these send their
output to a browser. Funny about that!
So to get what you want you have three choices:
1) Open a DCR against PC5250 and request HTML support.
2) Buy a 3rd-party client that does support HTML
3) Modify one of the various open-source 5250 emulators to support HTML
Again we find that the root point of your complaint IS supported by
the system but not surfaced in a manner you find acceptable.

Simon Coulter.
