Hi Charles
in answer to your question about PUTting a LF via ftp
Try and CPYF a logical file on your system, but creating a brand new file
that does not exist. The new file is created as a physical file.
In essence you are transferring the data from one entity to another. In
both cases creating a file.

Charles,
Would you mind giving an example. I've never come across a technique to
reformat data in the logical and would like to learn how to do so.
I'm also extremely curious about PUTting an LF on System-A and being able
to read the data residing on System-B. Was I incorrect when I said that an
LF is nothing more than an index, which in and of itself contains no actual
data? Again, I'm asking so I can learn something new - even if it throws
something I thought I knew into a dustbin.

Actually it does. I've done it in the past plenty of times.

John,
I don't think that the LF would reformat the data from packed to
zoned, though I have never had reason to try. I would create a zoned
version of the file, and copy the data. The i will map the data to
the new formats.
