There is no charge for sFTP on iSeries (openssh.org). It is a freebie.

SFTP (FTP with SSH) is available on the i at extra cost.
FTPS and SFTP are equally secure when properly implemented. FTPS uses two ports which can cause some challenges getting through firewalls.

All Unix servers support SFTP (SSH). Some support FTPS using external proxy or SSL tunneling servers.

There are two flavors of FTPS, implicit and explict security.
Explicit security is negotiated on port 21 (usually) using the Start-TLS command.
Implicit Security means the SSL session starts first and after it is established, the FTP session runs inside the secure tunnel. The iSeries supports both.

Explicit is the favored method and the subject of the latest RFC on Securing FTP with TLS.
